Musical event depicts changing Kashmir

Nothing is forever in this ever-changing world. The same also applies for political unrests, strife, discontentment and much more. The revolt of today will be mitigated or become extinct in the coming days. The fire or abhorrence against any established order will also die down with the passing of years. This is the law of life and this has been going on through ages. Or else how can you justify the changing mood of the Kashmir valley in India? The valley that was under the control of the terrorists or advocators of Jihad is now enjoying musical concert.

The same incident did happen in the recent days when the valley turned to a, in real terms, paradise after going through a period of uncertainty for years. The event was the inauguration of a Kashmir study center at Kashmir University and to embellish the occasion the famous Pakistani rock band “Junoon” was invited and whose participation changed the disconsolate environment of years. The band was invited as a part of the grand celebration but it turned out to be a historic moment and also the first live concert of its own kind. The uncommon event became witness to clapping and cheering that accompanied the melodious Sufi lyrics and the jingling sound of the guitars.

What is more there was a forbiddance against the participation in the concert under the auspices of a militant organization, United Jihad Council. But Kashmiri youth in thousands, if not more, defied the ban and participated in the event, a specimen of the changing attitude.

The gathering was mesmerized by the acclaimed songs of the rock band like Khudi Ko Kar Buland Itna, Ya Ali and the popular Sayoonee. No only men but also women were found cheering up the band! With the progression of time no difference between rich and poor, literate and illiterate could be noticed except one – the unified soul of Kashmir, which found true expression in the song of Ahmad through the stanza from the band's famous album Azadi
